I spent almost a decade of my life working in the BPO industry. In my first 5 years, I felt like the time flew by so fast. Aside from really enjoying the fast-paced life in the city, I made a lot of friends, learned new skills and got promoted several times.
However, my last three years weren’t that promising. I wasn’t sure if it was because my company didn’t give sufficient incentives or recognition for long-tenure employees or I was just jaded working graveyard shift and bored doing the same thing every day.
To add to that, most of my closest friends had left the company. Some of them even started their own business, while others landed a good day job. Though I wanted to leave, my responsibilities at home were holding me back.
If you always hesitate, there will be no right time for you. You will never be ready and the conditions will always be unsuitable and inadequate.
One day, I had an issue with my paycheck. I was expecting an extra performance bonus, but the finance department failed to include it the computation. I was looking forward to that premium because I had bills to pay.
That was my wake-up call. My company never cared about my personal life and it would never love me back. The following payday, I made up my mind to take a deep breath, close my eyes and prepare for the bravest dive of my life – I resigned.
I was determined to make it happen. In just three days, I landed a new job. I had to make a lot of adjustments though. First of all, the work was a day shift, I wasn’t used to seeing the sun anymore, and second, the pay was way less than what I used to get.
Getting out of your comfort zone is not easy, but you need to make the necessary sacrifices to get to where you really want to be.
So, I asked a friend to teach me how to cook, I took the bus instead of a cab and I bought instant coffee instead of going to Starbucks. I did things I never thought I could do before.
I kept learning and came up with ways to survive despite my limited resources. I realized that all the time, I was so blind to see that I had everything I needed to get started and try a new life.
In reality, your dreams are out there waiting, but you won’t find them if you just lie down on your bed; you have to wake up and make them come true.
“The Adventure is Out There, But You Won’t Find It By Staying Comfortable” by Whitney Haldeman is a short story of how one girl learned to be brave and adventurous after a break-up.
The writer explains how getting lost could be a beautiful experience and leaves us with this lesson:
“Our disappointments are often to give us something better than our dreams. Sometimes, we lose our happiness to gain exuberant joy.”
Sometimes, we have to learn to let go and try new things. We have to have faith in ourselves and believe that though we lost something, we would be able to find greater things along the way.
We shouldn’t let ourselves get stuck in our unhappiness and troubles because we may be losing out on opportunities.
Ladies, take action right away and don’t wait for things to get worse.
Address your problems immediately. Small issues that are taken for granted could mount up fast and become harder to resolve.
Same concept applies in business. For instance, you’re managing your own e-commerce website and you’re dissatisfied with your hosting solutions because of server issues. When you don’t take action, it has a huge impact on your business and on your customers as well.
So, slow down and take time to address the issue, there might be a need to upgrade your web hosting immediately.
Life is about problem solving. Believe that you have the power to change your life in so many fantastic ways.
Life is too short to take your dreams for granted. Everything could be gone in a heartbeat.
So start mapping out your plans and don’t bother much with your “perceived” roadblocks and limitations because you can deal with them along the way.
Keep pushing your dreams forward.

Don’t put your dreams on hold and STOP PROCRASTINATING. Start figuring things out one little step at time. Take risks and don’t be afraid to make drastic changes because if you don’t, you will be stuck in the world of “what could have been.”
Have the courage to make your dreams come true, right here, right now!
