When Belinda Smith of Pontiac, Michigan, now 41-years old, was just a 11 years old, her mom died of leukemia. The situation was a tough one, leaving her in a hardened financial position. She even had to turn down suitors at her own prom because she didn’t have the money to go.

As a result her son Danottiss, an 18 year old high school senior, wanted to do something nice for his tearful mother, compelling him to ask her to prom.

“Some of my close friends thought it was kind of weird. But it’s still cool you asked your mom to prom. No one’s ever done that before,” explains Danottiss.

“I am overwhelmed. I am.” Belinda says.

Now that the two have sorted out what to wear, the only thing left to do is figure out how to move on the dance floor.
