How many times have you ever lied to yourself? Oh, I lost count a long time ago. I’ve lied to myself many times in the past because the truth hurts and I was having trouble facing reality.

I stayed in a toxic relationship for 9 years and pretended that everything was okay. In reality, I just couldn’t accept the fact that I was too weak to let go and too scared to try to make it on my own.

Sometimes, our dreams can be too unrealistic but it is also a fact that people achieve the impossible.

One day, I just woke up so fed up of everything and so tired of all my partner’s excuses that I ended up just packing all my things and I left him for good. I did something I thought I would never be able to do, I put myself first.

After that, truth became my friend and it stopped hurting me ever since then. My experiences helped me realized three things about truth:

• That it’s way better than living a lie
• That it’s not the truth but our thoughts that can kill us
• That it can really set us free

Life is not easy so here are 4 harsh realities of life that we all must learn to accept.

You may not be able to solve all the problems in your life but you can either learn to tolerate it or cherish it.

In the piece “Your Ideal Partner Will Always Create Problems,” writer Kyle Benson explains that there are two types of problems in a relationship: the solvable problems and the unsolvable problems.

The first type of conflict is functional and has a positive side to it. It teaches you how to love and understand your partner better. It also teaches you how to make the necessary adjustments and grow as the relationship evolves.

The second type, however, are the perpetual ones, which are the results of differences in personalities, needs and expectations. Without healthy communication, this type of conflict can make the relationship emotionally clogged.

This tells us one important thing – that even if we can’t kill the monster in the closet, we can learn to tame it through acceptance, appreciation and most importantly, through healthy and consistent communication.

Shi* happens.  All the time.  But you can always do something about it.

Unfortunately, no one is exempt from life dumping on them. Accidents happen even to the most careful people, even to those who don’t deserve it. You can get sick even when you’re trying really hard to be healthy.

Life may be full of uncertainties but there’s one thing you can be sure of – you can choose to do something about it. Don’t let yourself be defeated by your thoughts and actions. Keep moving forward because every single step you take will always lead you a little further than you were before.

Bad experiences could help open our minds up to infinite possibilities. Let’s take for example the latest development in medicine.

Recently, scientists have performed the first trials of a universal cancer vaccine that could work against any type of tumor in the body.

The search for the cure has been going on for decades,  but at least now we have another reason to feel hopeful about the future of cancer treatment. And hope is always a good thing.

There’s a price tag to everything, but the most important things are always worth it.

Sorry to say this, ladies but there’s no free lunch. Whoever told you that the best things in life are free is definitely not telling the whole truth. There’s a catch to it.

Love, happiness and peace of mind come with a price. The question is – how much you’re willing to pay to get it? How much are you willing to sacrifice to win it?

You have to work for everything you wish to have in your life like having a happy relationship or even achieving peace of mind. The most important things in life require a lot of time, determination and energy to achieve.

You can learn a lot from Michael Grothaus, who engaged in Zen Meditation for a whole month. As a result, he was able to optimize his life. He got to know himself better and gained more focus, confidence, patience and control.

One woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure; one person’s joy is another person’s torture. So, be crazy, be stupid, be whatever.

What is good for one can be bad for the other. It’s impossible to please everyone so it doesn’t make sense to even try. Your value doesn’t decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth. So, the best thing you can do is just be authentic. Be yourself. Know what’s best for you and do what makes you happy.

Life goes on, with or without you.

The more you run away from the truth, the more you will feel trapped and stuck. Your desperation can only make it worse. The only way you can set yourself free is by learning to embrace these things and by choosing to face your battles every day with your head up high.
