Did you ever reach a point in your life when you began to question the purpose of your existence and you started to wonder if you were just born to suffer on Earth? Like you were being punished for some reason you had no knowledge of?

In 2012, I lost my job. And while I was struggling to find a new one, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was also having financial issues because I was the only breadwinner of the family and I had to help send my sisters to school.  Fortunately, I got help from some of my relatives, which allowed me to somehow bounce back and stand up again. However, a couple of months later, our family farm got badly damaged by a tropical storm that caused us to lose nearly everything.

At the time, I couldn’t understand why so many bad things were happening and why life seemed to never run out of complications. However, my view of the world changed when I volunteered to do some charity work for an orphanage, where the company I was working for was one of the sponsors.

The whole experience was eye opening for me. It helped me look at life from a different perspective. It also made me realize the importance of appreciating the little things in life and the purpose of pushing boundary after boundary.

If ever you’re feeling confused about the real essence of living, here are some reasons why you should keep growing  and make learning a priority.

It Helps You Become More Aware of Your Weaknesses

When you decided to seek self-improvement, it meant that you were humble enough to admit that you are not perfect and that you don’t know everything. It means you recognize your weaknesses and that you are willing to do something about it.

Accepting your mistakes and acknowledging your flaws and deficits can be a really humbling experience. It takes real courage to do it, but once you’ve learned to maintain the right attitude and find the right tools to compensate for your failures and mistakes, attaining happiness and success become easier.

In dealing with money issues, for instance, it’s easier to bounce back from a financial hangover when you are aware of your weaknesses.

Writer Talia Koren mentions dwelling in the past. I have a friend who couldn’t get over her previous job, where she used to earn more money. Although, her new job is good she’s always complaining about how difficult her life is now because she is always broke!

In my opinion, it’s impossible to move on with life when you choose to beat yourself up instead of letting go of the past, embracing your imperfections and learning the lessons that you can’t ignore.

It Will Improve Your Relationships

Engaging in personal development improves your sense of self-worth. It boosts your confidence and helps you realize that you don’t have to accept anything less than you deserve.

When you are aware of your worth, you know better than to waste your emotional energy on people, who don’t respect you, who don’t inspire you and who don’t support your success.

In the piece “Unrequited Love: Why We Cling,” writer Wendy Paris explains the importance of seeking positive transition in your life to change how you see the past and how you see yourself.

Continuously seeking development in your life helps you regain the self-esteem that you’ve lost from making bad decisions in the past like being with an undeserving person or wasting your time in unrequited love. In a way, it gives you a chance to redeem yourself and make things better. It also teaches you to say NO to people and things that are not right for you.

It Can Help You Make Your Dream Come True

Your commitment to becoming your best self helps you get clarity on what will make you happy, making it easier for you to set goals and work towards achieving them. It motivates you to begin one small step at a time and gives you confidence to continue until you succeed.

According to writer Elle Harikleia, the world is a knowledge-based economy where continually growing our skills and capabilities is essential to success. Being a lifelong learner not only makes you competitive and emotionally balanced but also a more well-rounded woman who has a better sense of the world.

It Helps You Stand Taller

Aside from getting to know yourself more, pursuing self-growth encourages you not to lose sight of yourself. It reminds you that despite being busy attending to matters of life, that it is also equally important to have time to be centered on yourself and your own needs.

This purification treatment works by oiling the body from the inside using clarified butter to saturate fat cells and allow toxins such as pesticides, heavy metals, and even emotions to be released.
