Have you drifted from trend to trend without ever really settling in on your own style? While the latest looks to hit the runway are always exciting, it’s equally important to put some of your own personality into your look. Here are a few quick tips to help you figure out what works for you. Get comfortable experimenting & you’ll find your niche in no time!

#1) Sort through your current wardrobe

I spent a long time trying to figure out my “look” and didn’t really identify it until I pulled out all of the things I never wear. If you take a few minutes to sort through those pieces and figure out why you don’t wear them, you’ll have a good idea of what you do appreciate and what you should steer clear of.

#2) Line up your favorites

Pull out your 5 absolute favorite articles of clothing and line them up next to each other. There’s a good chance there are some consistent themes, whether it’s color, style or material. The clothes you feel most comfortable and at home in will give you some good clues as to what will suit you best.

#3) Consider your lifestyle

Are you athletic? Business-oriented? Artistic? Always choose your apparel to fit your lifestyle. If you’re consistently dressing for the wrong occasion, you’re never going to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. Likewise, don’t be afraid to embellish on your look – if you wear a suit every day, spice things up with accessories that are 100% you.

#4) Play dress up

Spend a day at the mall without planning on buying anything and try on a bunch of different looks in your favorite stores. Take a few of those cheesy mirror snapshots for reference later – if you’re shopping without the pressure of needing an outfit for a specific event, you’ll be able to loosen up and play around with styles you wouldn’t normally take the time to try out.

#5) Pin it up

I’ve had a board on Pinterest that I’ve been adding my favorite styles to every few days for the past 18 months. Early on, it doesn’t look like much out of the ordinary, but as you add more and more pieces over time, you’ll start to see themes in what you like and why it suits you. I had no idea how addicted to stripes I am until I scrolled through 6 months worth of pins!

#6) Be fearless

It takes guts to switch up your look, but don’t be afraid to experiment. If you’re not 100% sure about an outfit, try wearing it to the grocery store for a test run and see how you feel. If you’re in the freezer aisle feeling silly about a funkadellic earring decision, you still have time to adjust accordingly before you debut the look socially.
