My cousin Sheena never runs out of something to complain about. She complains about her noisy neighbors, the price of commodities, how hard her job is, how she is gaining weight faster than the other people she knows and how lazy the attendant in the gas station is.

Believe me, if you’re the type of person who hates drama, Sheena is the last person you should be around. I don’t understand her either. Some of my other cousins have talked to her about it, but she’s never changed. Perhaps that’s just who she is, but still, I think her life and the life of the people around her would be so much better if she made a mental shift to grow her positive side.

Life is not perfect and it is not all bad news, it’s reality, and you have to deal with it at all times ladies. Your attitude towards your circumstances determines if you’re going to be alright or if you’re going to sink deeper into your miseries.

Here are the powerful effects that bringing more optimism in your life will have.

It Leads You to Success

Having a positive outlook is good for business. It reduces distractions that form inside your mind, boosts your productivity and increases your tolerance to unpleasant, unexpected and time-sensitive challenges that come your way. It also cultivates your ability in dealing with stresses and problems as well as making tough decisions.

According to writer Michael Jacobs, people with optimistic outlooks in life are the ones who usually find the most success. So, work on releasing your negative mentality by implementing these five techniques in your life to attract more luck and good vibes than you ever have before.

Aside from connecting with my higher self, expressing gratitude works best for me. Instead of complaining and focusing my attention on the things that I don’t have, I just try to be thankful for the problems that I don’t have. I also try not to take simple things for granted such as my friends who are always there for me, the 8-hour sleep I get every night, the coffee that keeps me calm and warm every morning and the “emergency ice cream” I always have in my fridge that I use to comfort myself whenever I’m feeling down.

Ladies, appreciating little things enables you to see the beauty of the world and gives you reasons to value life in all its glory.

It Inspires You to Believe in Yourself

Choosing to see the positive side of every situation makes you believe in yourself and in your ability to complete and accomplish anything that you want or any task that is assigned to you. It boosts your confidence and self-esteem essential to your growth and success.

When I couldn’t make it through my first choice for major in college, which was Dentistry, I felt like garbage. And since attending a different university was not an option for me, I ended up taking Speech Communication instead. At first, I felt bad for not being good enough to be where I wanted to be. But after a couple of weeks, I started making new friends and began to enjoy the exciting stuff that I was learning. And as soon as I stopped feeling sorry for myself, the things around me began to change; studying and passing classes became easier and more fun.

So, don’t beat yourself up or declare yourself hopeless over a lack of success. Decide to adopt a constructive outlook and turn your biggest setbacks into your best comebacks.

Here are healthy ways to think about failure:

• Failure is proof that you’re trying your best to accomplish something.
• A safe and boring life is relatively free of failure.
• Failure is not always personal.
• Just because you failed doesn’t mean you’re a failure. Failure is a verb, not a noun.
• Failure can show you that you are tougher than you think and you can handle more than you imagine.

It Improves Your Relationships

Another good reason to adopt a positive mindset is the effect it has on your relationship. By focusing on the good things about your partner and visualizing a happy future together, you can reduce conflicts and feel confident about your ability to solve problems together.

Relationships are hard enough to navigate and can get more complicated when you’re dealing with a broken soul. However, when you choose to pay attention to the positive and appreciate your partner with all your heart, regardless if he’s broken or not, you can look forward to a more positive experiences and long-lasting romance.

It Makes You Healthier & Happier

Health is also a matter of attitude. When you don’t worry too much about getting a promotion, when you’re not being paranoid about the possibility of your boyfriend cheating on you or when you’re not beating yourself up for not losing weight, then you’ll feel so much better.

Keeping your mood lively and happy has a great effect on your health. It strengthens your immune system, reduces the production of stress hormones and risks of chronic diseases, and increases your longevity.

Part of my morning routine is to grab my sneakers and dance Zumba for an hour. I believe that exercising regularly and staying fit boost optimism by helping you visualize your best possible future self in as much detail as possible.

So, for those of you who are having a hard time motivating yourself to get up and exercise, here are 7 ways to help yourself commit to an early morning workout.
